A recent study sponsored by BIC Graphics seems to prove this point.  The survey concluded that:

                    • 75% of participants carry a pen with them at all times
                    • 92% of car owners keep a pen in their car
                    • 76% stated that pens are important in daily activities
                    • 66% that received promotional pens in the last year recall the name on the pen
